SOS Children's Villages International President Mr. Helmut Kutin visited India to inaugurate the 33rd Children's Village in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh has three regions namely Andhra region,Telengana region and Rayalseema region. The existing two SOS projects in Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam provide care to 350 Children under the Family Based Care (FBC) and support 700 children through the Family Strengthening Programme (FSP). The SOS project in Tirupati is located in the Rayalseema region. The new village in Tirupati spreads across 7.01 acres of land and is flanked by small hamlets Nachanerri, Duggiperi, Nagampalli, Krishnampalli, etc. The construction cost has been funded by Akelius Foundation, a Swedish foundation. The land was donated by Dr. Bhaskar C Harinath, Director, JB Tropical Diseases Research Centre, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, Maharashtra.
At present there are 12 family homes under the Family Based Care model and support nearly 350 children under the Family Strengthening Programme (FSP). The number could be scaled up to 700 children in the due course of time.
