A Special Village

SOS Children’s Village Khajuri Kalan
In a world that is getting competitive by the day, lives of people are not easy, let alone those of the differently abled. This is where SOS Children’ Village at Khajuri Kalan comes in, one of the very few NGOs in India lending a helping hand to special children.

It was established in the year 2004. It is a project for long-term care, rehabilitation, and training & allied services for developmentally challenged children. Coming from diverse circumstances, children here need focused and customized attention to support them in their growth, and help them get integrated in the mainstream of life. The village at present consists of 14 Family Houses; having 85 children under the loving care of 14 SOS mothers, 12 aunts and 2 mother trainees.

SOS YOUTH

The Youth Home in Khajuri Kalan has a total of 31 boys. While all important festivals are celebrated, various physical and extra-curricular activities are organized for physical, mental, educational, religious, recreational and social development of youth. Sessions on art of living, sex education workshops, and seminars on the awareness of personal hygiene and physical changes of adolescent age, too, are witnessed.

A Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in SOS Children’ Village in Khajuri Kalan was especially set up for those who are unable to face the challenges of the outside world. The aim of a VTC is to provide and equip the specially abled youth with the necessary skills and training they require to realize their highest potential. Further, agriculture & horticulture related training is given to those who are keen to work close to nature, learn & take up vocation in horticulture in future. Young minds are assessed on the basis of what they’ve learnt, and placements take place accordingly.

Farming & Dairy Training programmes are also conducted to educate the youth about farm operations, where technical skills for the same are imparted.

MEDICAL CENTRE

The medical center is basically known as a Special School, where the children with disabilities are trained in activities of daily learning skills. The staff here is professionally trained for the overall development of children in various areas like personal, social, occupational, academics, and recreational areas. The center also has the facility of providing Early and Therapeutic Interventions, and also therapies related to speech, music, and occupation. Psychological Counseling and Vocational Training to children are also imparted. Sessions on topics related to personal health and hygiene, moral values, daily routine of life, etc. are also held quite often. Regular P.T and meditation schedule is also followed for the relaxation and channelization of the energy of children.
