December Round Up

While Christmas indulged everyone at SOS India in merry making, we are now excited to welcome 2019 with a bash! The month of December was very happening. Not only did children from SOS Village Alibaug enjoy the premeir of Netflix's original Mowgli with Christian Bale, SOS CV Bhubaneswar enjoyed the Hockey fever with Men's Hockey Teams from South Africa and Ireland! We hope you enjoy this monthly round-up of our activities and events at SOS India! 

1. Batman star Christian Bale meets children from SOS Children’s Village Alibaug

Over 20 children from SOS Children’s Villages of India (Alibaug) got the golden opportunity to be part of Netflix’s Mowgli World Premier Event on 25th November 2018 in Mumbai. The enthralling evening witnessed the presence of many renowned Bollywood actors, including the Indian voice cast of Netflix’s Mowgli- Abhishek Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and their Hollywood counterparts Serkis (Writer & Driector), Christian Bale, Rohan Chand and Freida Pinto. While children were thrilled to be part of the programme, many Bollywood and Hollywood actors also signed our pledge wall in support of our work, ensuring a loving home for every child.

2. Hockey fever takes over SOS Children’s Village Bhubaneswar

(A) South African Men’s Hockey Team visits SOS Children’s Village Bhubaneswar

As Bhubaneswar, Odisha, hosted the 14th Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018, the South African Hockey Team visited SOS Children’s Village on 5 December 2018 to up the excitement of the tournament. The 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup was held from 28 November 2018 to 16 December 2018 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.

(B) Ireland Men’s Hockey Team visits SOS Children’s Village Bhubaneswar

While the excitement of children after meeting the South African Men’s Hockey Team had not still subsided completely, SOS Children’s Village Bhubaneswar was privileged, yet again, to host the Ireland Men’s Hockey Team on 9 December 2018. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by children and all players of the team!

3. Human Rights Day Celebrations at Narayanpur FSP Cluster around SOS Children’s Village Kolkata

Awareness about human rights is essential if we are to stand up for them! 
Social activist Mrs. Sanchita Chowdhury emphasized this during the Human Rights Day celebrations held on Dec 10 at SOS India’s community outreach programme in Narayanpur, Kolkata.

Over 95 women and children pledged to respect human rights in their daily lives during the interactive session themed on ‘All rights for all’.

4. International Cricket Icon MS Dhoni, in association with Panerai, raises funds for SOS India

Panerai, the Italian Luxury Sports Watchmaker, organised a charity football match with its India Ambassador, also an International Cricket Icon, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, to raise funds for SOS India. Titled as ‘Heores for a Cause’, this match was held at St. Stanislaus Football Grounds in Bandra, Mumbai. Apart from MS Dhoni, the event witnessed participation of sports influencers from the country, semi-professional women football players and Panerai’s esteemed clients. The friendly match of Football was followerd by an auction of the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Acciaio- 42mm PAM00682, a timepiece worn by MS Dhoi during the match. The proceedings raised from this auction was donated to SOS Children’s Villages of India, where children from SOS Children’s Villages of Alibaug were also present. The watch was auctioned at INR 8 Lakh.

5. Reader’s Digest publishes a feature on SOS Children’s Villages

Reader's Digest is an American general-interest family magazine, which offers content on true stories, humor, voices & views and features.

Reader’s Digest (India-Nepal) published a feature on SOS Children’s Villages of India as part of their December issue. As the article starts with describing the life of SOS Mother Molly Mathew and her five children: Meenu, Baby, Rini, Indu and Romit, it gives the reader a sneak peak of a Family Home in an SOS Children’s Village. Further talking about Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, founding father of SOS Children’s Villages, and his childhood in Alberschwende, Austria, the feature informs the reader of his journey of coming up with the concept of SOS Children’s Villages.
