SOS India welcomes 2019 with a bang!

January brought with it a whiff of excitement and enthusiasm and we cannot wait to put it into action! With our energies channelized towards ensuring the holistic development of every child under our care, we are all set to experiment and work with newer & more effective ways of doing so. Read below to know more.

1. SOS Children’s Village Hojai wins Best Child Care Institution Award

It is a matter of great pride to share with you all that SOS Children’s Village Hojai has been recognized as the Best Child Care Institution by the Hojai District Administration, as part of their 70th Republic Day celebrations. The recognition is a testament to the quality care that SOS India provides to many once parentless and abandoned children. The honour was presented by Tanmoy Pratim Borgohain, Deputy Commissioner, Hojai, to Paresh Badyakar, Village Director of SOS CV Hojai.

2. Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, visits SOS CV Guwahati

Children, mothers and other staff members of SOS Children’s Village Guwahati were honoured to receive Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, on 3 January 2019.

While he appreciated SOS India’s concept and work, he congratulated all SOS Mothers and co-workers for their commendable contribution in the lives of many once parentless children.

3. Akzonobel joins hands with SOS India

Akzonobel has collaborated with SOS India with an aim to uplift the lives of young people under the care of SOS Children’s Villages of India through its “Let’s Colour” programme, run under AkzoNobel’s flagship Dulux brand. The initiative is designed to use education and renovation to drive a positive impact on youth unemployment.

Speaking about the association, Rajiv Rajgopal, Managing Director, AkzoNobel India said, “Skill development has been a focus of our corporate social responsibility initiative in India. Supporting the Skill India Mission, 3500 underprivileged youth have been trained at AkzoNobel’s Paint Academies in India till date. We are delighted to launch the India chapter of our global partnership with SOS Children’s Villages of India. This association aims at supporting the youth under the care of SOS India to enhance their employability by means of improving their communication skills through training. More than 300 youth are expected to benefit from this association.”

4. Libin makes SOS India proud!

SOS Mother Thresiamma is extremely pleased and proud of her son Dr. Libin, a youth from SOS Children’s Village Cochin. And so are we all, in the SOS India Family!

He has secured an all India rank 108th in the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) 2018 Examination for Masters in Dental Science (MDS). He completed his BDS (Bachelors in Dental Science) in 2016 and is now all set for the next level. His family and friends are extremely happy for him.

5. Radisson Hotel Group launches ‘Make A Difference’!

For every night booked at a participating hotel in Asia-Pacific, Radisson will donate US$1 directly to SOS Children's Villages International to help fund educational initiatives for underprivileged children across the region.

We thank Ms. Katerina Giannouka, President, Asia Pacific, Radisson Hotel Group and Mr. Saurabh Prakash, Vice President, Commercial, Asia Pacific, Radisson Hotel Group, for this initiative!

6. Vaibhav soars high!

Vaibhav Tambat from SOS Children’s Village Alibaug secured the 2nd position in the 18th Maharashtra State Level Microeconomics Olympiad. Out of 133 students from 48 colleges of Maharashtra who participated, Vaibhav’s Microbio Canvas Project was selected among the top ten. Currently, Vaibhav is pursuing his in B.Sc.(Microbiology) from CKT College, Panvel, and is in his final year.

7. Sports stars shine bright!

Pankaj, a youth from SOS Children's Village Begusarai, represented the Bihar Handball Team (state level) at the 64th National School Games held at Hisar, Haryana, from 10th-14th January 2019. The team stood 3rd in the tournament and won the Bronze medal by knocking out three other teams. They were facilitated by the State Handball Association, Bihar, as part of a special ceremony organised on Republic Day (26 January) in Patna.

Currently, Pankaj, along with another youth Sambhu, is pursuing their sports training at the Ekalavya Sports Academy, Patna.
