Urgent support needed to help the children and families of the deceased and missing #UttarakhandGlacierBurst

Loss of lives and livelihoods have endangered survival of family members and quality care for their children. Emergency Response team of SOS Children’s Villages of India, the only NGO that has hit the ground running with immediate relief measures for children and families swiftly responded by opening a child care centre – providing children a safe zone - toys, meals, stationery and books and by supplying dry ration to the families. Our teams are also working on providing medium to long term support to children to come up to speed with their education that had already taken a jolt due to the pandemic. We are also working on skilling the youth for restoring the lost livelihoods of their families, who were directly/indirectly dependent on the mega project that has now come to a sudden halt.

We solicit your immediate support for the following relief measures:
  • Livelihood support to affected families
  • Child Care Centre
  • Dry Ration and Stationary distribution

On 18 Feb, our response team started relief work for supporting 117 families in “Karcho”, a remotely located backward village in Chamoli district, which is extremely difficult to reach. Most of the population from Karcho used to work at the project site. This disaster has left them hopeless. We have set up a Child Learning Space to keep children engaged meaningfully, thereby minimising the impact of the disaster. We are also providing dry ration and general counselling to overcome disaster related setbacks as well as on alternative ways of livelihoods to the families.

Looking forward to your generous support to help us minimise sufferings of these children and their families in this hour of need.
