SOS Tarang 2016

SOS Tarang is the annual festival of SOS India that commemorates the occasion of Universal Children’s Day in order to celebrate Child’s Rights. It is a series of regional and zonal level competitions and activities where children are provided a platform to showcase their talent in the field of sports, art and culture. The purpose of celebrating this day with such fervor is to mark appreciation for the outstanding skills and abilities that our children encompass and to inculcate confidence in them. Once the series of events end at the lower levels, the children then compete at the National Level Competition which is also the grand finale of our festival. 

SOS Tarang 2016 commenced on the 23rd of November with the inauguration of a painting specially created to thematically reflect SOS Tarang for the event by the students of Hermann Gmeiner School, Faridabad, Delhi NCR. After a welcome note by SOS India President, Mr. S. Sandilya,  a short welcome entertainment session for the children was held at the venue itself. Mr. Ashis K. Ray and Ms. Sudha Shastri, Board Members of SOS Children’s Villages of India were present at the inauguration were along with  Secretary General, Ms. Anuja Bansal and coworkers.

The Football and Basketball Final Matches were held the following day on 24th November 2016, at the Herman Gmeiner School, Fairdabad and at the SOS Children’s Village Greenfields respectively. All the Village Directors and Zonal Directors were cheering for their respective Zones.
The final day of the event saw the Zonal Final round of the Music Competition held during the day at the Herman Gmeiner School Auditorium in Faridabad. The grand finale of the event along with the prize distribution ceremony was held at the India Islamic Centre at Lodhi Road.. The event was hosted by the very amiable Ms. Heena Sheikh, settled Youth from SOS CV Bhopal. Children from across India performed enthusiastically and their months of hardwork and determination was visible in the exemplary quality of their performances. Live performaces by the Winners of Folk Vocal (Solo & Duet) competitions  in three catagories- Upto 10 years, 10-15 years and 15-18 years, were breathtaking.

The audience also witnessed the Folk Dance Competition amongst the finalists from the four Zones. The event saw settled youth- Archana and Chethana from SOS CV Banglore and Sonali Bora from SOS CV Bhimtal, FSP Youth Anand Burman from FSP Raipur speak and motivate younger children. The youth spoke about their journey with SOS India and the significant impact their mothers and the coworkers have made on their lives.
Ms. Suneeta Rao, a well known singer remembered for the block buster hit “Pari Hun Main“ was the Guest of Honour for the Grand Finale on 25th November, 2016. Her performance with the SOS Children was very entertaining. Ms. Rao, an illustrious singer was moved watching the children perform as well as hearing some of the settled youth narrate their stories. The Indian National Anthem presented by the special children from SOS Children’s Village, Khajuri Kalan in sign language was the highlight of the day. Board Members of SOS Children’s Villages of India, the management team and the coworkers besides donors and life members were present to witness the spectacle.
The event concluded in high spirits and renewed vigour amongst the children to perform even better in 2017. Given below is the list of all the winners across all categories.
