SOS India Pays Homage to Tara Ali Baig

SOS India organised the 29th Tara Ali Baig Memorial Lecture on ‘Skilling for a Better Tomorrow’ on 8th August 2018 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi.

At SOS India, August 8th is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lt. Smt. Tara Ali Baig, the 2nd President of SOS Children’s Villages of India. She served the organisation for 22 years during which, our work expanded massively. Remembered fondly as Tara Dadi, she was great with children and spent most her time with young boys and girls, helping them find the right direction in life.

This year, SOS India organised the 29th Tara Ali Baig Memorial Lecture on Skilling for a Better Tomorrow. The event began at 5:30 pm and was held at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi.

The memorial lecture was graced by the presence of our Chief Guest Prof. M M Pant, Former Pro-Vice Chancellor, IGNOU and Dr. Neeta Pradhan Das, Director- Skill Development, CII, who enriched the session with their valuable thoughts on the importance of skill development, especially for youth. Additionally, we were also honoured to have with us Mr. Khalid Baig, son of Ms. Tara Ali Baig, who very beautifully paid tribute to his mother in his speech.

The programme began with lighting of the lamp and invocation, followed by a welcome address delivered by Mr. S. Sandilya, President of SOS India. Shilpi, an SOS Youth from SOS CV Bawana, also shared her experience of growing up in an SOS Children’s Village and how it turned her life around just when she needed it the most. As she spoke, she shared with us her journey of growing up with her brothers and sisters. She talked about how the transition from a little girl to a responsible adult was made smooth by her mother’s constant love and support, which would not have been possible if she weren’t part of the SOS India Family. Further in the programme, Ms. Kamolini Senapati, an SOS Mother from SOS CV Greenfields, also shared her experience of raising 22 children till now and how it has made all the difference in her life.  The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks given by Ms. Anuja Bansal, Secretary General of SOS India and the National Anthem.

The 29th Tara Ali Baig Memorial Lecture was a huge success. We thank all our guests, donors and friends to have taken time out to be with all of us on this occasion.
