Losing her parents at the age of five, Sonu came to SOS Children’s Village Latur with her younger sister. In the Village, she was placed under the care of SOS Mother Prafulla Deshpande, who welcomed the little girl in her home with arms wide open. Prafulla nurtured her with love and care to turn her into the disciplined and sincere girl that she is today.

Hard-working from the beginning, Sonu not only excelled in academics but was also very responsible at home. She helped her mother in household chores, grocery shopping and many other little ways that she could. In class 8, Sonu resolved to become an engineer. She performed brilliantly in class 10th Board Examinations, giving her a way to get her diploma in Polytechnic-Electronics and Telecommunication.

Sonu was the first girl from SOS Children’s Village Latur to take up engineering. Not only the supportive environment of her college increased her self-esteem, it also helped her in the holistic development of her personality. She created her own identity through singing, art and good behavior, winning many medals at the inter school and state level for her school. In addition, Sonu got 75% in her diploma course, paving the way to a lateral entry admission in the Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, Pune.

Today, she in not only a role model for many young girls at the Children’s Village in Latur but is also a shining star of SOS India. We wish her good luck, continued success and a beautiful life ahead!
