SOS Children’s Villages of India, Greenfields is located in the town of Faridabad is a well known NGO in Delhi NCR. Faridabad adds up greatly to the state of Haryana when it comes to economy. The city has not only seen a massive growth in its infrastructure over the years, but has also witnessed a rapid increase in its population. This has resulted in being a problem in Faridabad, since the infrastructural development has not been able to cope up with the rise in population. This led to the excessive slums in town, where people reside in bad sanitation and health facilities.
Children growing up in such situations are more prone to diseases and illnesses. They are not enrolled in schools, and spend their day out in the streets trying to gather whatever little amount of money they can for their families. While many have already been abandoned by their parents, there is a large proportion of children who are on the brink of losing parental care.
SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE GREENFIELDS
SOS Children’s Village at Greenfields was established in the year 1964. At present, the Village consists of 193 children in 20 Family Homes under the loving care of 18 dedicated mothers, 4 aunts and 3 mother trainees. All important festivals and days of National and International relevance are celebrated in the village with utmost enthusiasm. Workshops and seminars are also organized in the village to educate children about social issues like children’s rights, gender equality, sex education etc. Special training sessions are held at the SOS Village, where children are involved in various activities that bring out their best of skills and help them realize their maximum potential.
The year 2016 saw many big companies like Canon India, Johnson & Johnson, INDIGO Airlines, Oriflame Best Seller, Edelman, RITES, New Gen Technologies, HSBC, Deustche Bank etc., who installed computer systems in all our Family Homes along with an internet connection.
SOS YOUTH
At present, the total number of youth at our facilities adds up to 98. While children at SOS India are enrolled in reputed schools, the youth under our care are pursuing their bachelors’ courses. Children here are seen to be very active not only in academics, but also in co-curricular activities like sports, dance, music and art. In 2016, a significant academic improvement was seen at our Youth Home in Greenfields.
FAMILY STRENGTHENING PROGRAMME (FSP)
SOS India started its Family Strengthening Programme in Greenfields in the year 2003. Our aim through this scheme is to help families which are unable to sustain on their own. Besides monetary aid, SOS India also provides people with a number of trainings to help them get back on their feet with proper channelization of their skill. At present, the total number of beneficiaries under our FSP in Faridabad totals up to 229.
