Children from SOS CV Alibaug participated in the famous Mastek Marathon. The marathon was organised by international IT firm Mastek Ltd and was attended by 3000+ runners from across Mumbai. SOS Children’s Villages of India was officially selected by Mastek Ltd as preferred charity for the event. The preferred charity status facilitated free entry through the marathon for our Children from the Alibaug Villages, well as a generous donation to SOS India by Mastek Foundation. Mr. RK Sinha, Village Director, Alibaug flagged off the marathon and accepted the donation cheque on SOS India’s behalf. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) observed ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, from 28th October to 2nd November. The theme for this year was “Integrity–A way of life”. Our FSP Bhubaneswar team was privileged to be a part of this awareness program. They even came forward to spread awareness about our #NoChildAlone Campaign. Our programs were held in 3 communities, i.e Dalua, Mahimanagar and Haridamada. People had high appreciation and gratitude for SOS Children’s Villages of India and IOC Ltd. for conducting such awareness programmes. Four of our shining stars – Mariam Lamin, Ritgenlang Ryntathiang, Biralin Kharbani and Balapidianghun Janong received the Scouts and Guides Governor Award for 2019. Our champions were awarded by the Honorable Governor of Meghalaya – Shri Tathagata Roy at the Raj Bhavan, Shillong. They received the award as SOS Children’s Village Shillong Scout and Guide Unit candidates, which is headed by the Asst. State Commissioner for Scout – Mr. Binod Chetri. For the award, our children attended different training, activities, adventure camps and participated in different projects in different places in the state. FSP team from SOS Children’s Village Tirupati initiated innovative library model called “Books in a Box” for remote and rural community children who don’t have access to books and libraries. Under this wonderful programme, groups of children from FSP communities are given a box full of books and the groups will own a small library. Once in every 3 months, groups of children will exchange their library boxes with other groups so all the groups will be getting a complete set of new books. An active participant in school extracurricular activities and extempore competitions, Vijayasri from SOS Children’s Village Nagapattinam who lately took part and won 1st prize in the science project competition at school level. Vijayasri got selected for district level and we are proud to announce that she won the 1st prize in District level Science Exhibition conducted by Department of school education, Tamil Nadu. This led her to the state level finals, where she bagged the 8th position in the entire state of Tamil Nadu and has the scope of getting selected to represent Tamil Nadu in Inter State competitions. On 10th November, SOS Children’s Village Nagapattinam organised a programme with District Administration and District Medical Unit to get the Tamil Nadu Government Mediclaim card for all our resident children in the village & Youth House. SOS Nagapattinam also became the first CCI receiving this Government medical Insurance card for the children in Nagapattinam. This scheme was launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide medical insurance coverage for underprivileged people living in the state. It was launched in partnership with state-owned general insurance service provider United India Insurance, based in Chennai. This plan offers coverage for emergency medical expenses with the help of various empaneled government and private hospitals in Tamil Nadu. On 20th November every year, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated across the world. To celebrate this auspicious occasion SOS India also organises SOS Tarang, the annual sports and cultural festival with children participating from across 32 villages in 22 states of India. Energy and power was seen among the children since Tarang Zonals. Keeping up to the expectations, North Zone team won the Basketball finals against their competitors from West Zone. Similarly, in football East Zone won against North Zone leaving the audience stunned with their amazing game. In fact, it was great fun watching our children paint their hearts out during the Painting Competition. 184 participants competed in 500 competitions, all leading up to the main event. It was great fun watching our children paint their hearts out during the Painting Competition. The Tarang finale 2019 was held on 22nd November at Sri Sathya Sai Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The programme began with Saraswati Vandana and SOS Prayer followed by an energetic short film on the entire journey of SOS Tarang 2019. Other events included a group song, group dance, duet song and solo song. Two of our settled youths, Babita and Gaurav shared their SOS journey, leaving people in tears. Finally the mesmeric evening was concluded with the award ceremony for all the winners.
